Inspiration Starter #1

Ornamentfr_3

I am already beginning to see some Holiday decorations in the stores.  But ornaments can be used all through the year.  Here's a couple I made up very quickly with the 2x2 and 1x3 Memory Frames.  I also used the Rusty Filligree Corner Embellishments.  The images are from Collage Sheet 29 and Collage Sampler 03.  I added a little glitter to the bottom of the of the dresses and a punched flower in placed in the girls hands, before adding the glass.  When completely assembled, I added a small pink rhinestone in the center of the punched flower, on the outside of the glass.
I hope this will inspire you to start thinking about ornaments of all kinds.  Again if you make something from this "starter", I'd love to see it.

Pink and Rusty Treasures

Pinksm_3

This is a tutorial showing how to create a little glass slide collage and mount on a 4x4 ceiling tile.

Paperwhimsy supplies and tools

Other supplies and tools

  • 2 copper colored brads
  • Miscellaneous collage bits
  • Short piece of ribbon
  • Small charm
  • Glass and/or metal glues
  • Small clamp
  • Hammer and small 1-2 inch nail
  • Optional 2x2 inch matboard

Instructions

  • Before starting on the ceiling tile, it’s a good idea to go ahead and punch the holes for attaching the ivy garland.  I used a small nail, and hammered a small hole approximately ½ inch in from the two top corners.
  • Select your 2x2 inch Paperwhimsy image, and one or two, 2x2 glass slides.  You can use a glass slide or a piece of matboard for the back of the glass slide sandwich.
  • Arrange any additional collage bits, and lightly glue to the image.
  • Lay the glass slide over the top of the collage, and position the backing.  Use a clamp to hold the sandwich.
  • Unroll 3-4 inches of the sticky backed copper foil tape.  Peel the backing off, and lay on table sticky side up.
  • Press one edge of the sandwich on the foil, being sure it is centered.  Unroll a few more inches of the tape, and roll the next side of glass sandwich.  Repeat for all sides.  Remove the clamp after the third side is taped.
  • Cut the tape, and burnish all outside edges.  Clip the foil at the corners to remove excess, and carefully fold the edges onto the glass front, and backing.  Burnish all copper surfaces till smooth.
  • String a small charm on a piece of ribbon.  Wrap the ribbon around the glass slide starting at the top and alternating corners, being sure the charm is positioned at the bottom.  Tie a small knot or bow.
  • With a stippling brush, lightly age the edges of a paper frame, using the Vintage Photo Distressed Ink.  Center and glue the paper frame to the rusty ceiling tile, with your favorite gel medium.  A square of paper with decorative edging can be used as an alternative.
  • Select a glue depending on the backing of the glass slide, and apply to back of the glass slide.  Center the slide on the ceiling tile.  Let the glue dry the appropriate time.  To be safe, even overnight.
  • Bend the rusty ivy garland in almost a semi-circle.  You will want to be able to line up the edges with holes punched earlier.  Secure with the brads.
  • Enjoy your Paperwhimsy creation.

The pink background paper in the photograph is from the pink paper packets.

If you make something with some of the ideas in this tutorial, I’d love to see it!

A Fun Paperwhimsy Mosaic

Flicker has so many fun little toys.  I thought I'd make this mosaic from some of my ATCs and canvases.  You can see more of my Paperwhimsy artwork at R2artstudio Flickr.
