Happy Thanksgiving & a Giftie!

I just read somewhere that there are only 34 days til Christmas!  Now, back in the "olden days" you didn't even think about Christmas until after Thanksgiving.  But since I've been thinking about Christmas for about three months, now for my shoppe, PaperWhimsy, I'm panic stricken!  I don't have any idea what I'm getting anyone let alone my gifts bought let alone my gifts wrapped.

So, if you're like me - you haven't bought gifts yet or any of the paraphernalia that goes with the gifts like the gift tags - or you haven't bought your Christmas cards, yet... maybe these little holiday gifties will help.

I'm attaching two digital files here for you to use for decorating your packages or making Christmas cards.  I started out with the PINK because I'm a pinkie and then thought, "Hey, not everyone is a pinkie", so I also made them in a sepia (which still has a hint of pink).  So, if you're a pinkie hopefully the PINK ones will please, and if you're not a pinkie, then hopefully the SEPIA will float your boat.  And if you like 'em both then hurrah!!!  Help yourself!

I would dearly love to see what you create with them if you care to share.  Just respond to this post with a link to your blog and your artwork.

Just click on the corresponding image to get to the download.  Please be patient, they're BIG files so it will take a few minutes to load and save to your computer.

For my other digi sheets, please wander on over to my shoppe.  It just so happens that today is the first day of my Pre-Thanksgiving Giving Thanks Sale that started today. The entire line of my everyday digi sheets are marked down 25%.  Just in case you suddenly decide you'd like to make some gifts for someone you love... or yourself!

Happy Thanksgiving!!  Happy Holidays!!!

Pardon Our Faerie Dust

Our migration to a high CPU server is currently in the works.  You'll notice something wacky about the website, today, when you visit.  It will appear as though we're there but when you click on any of the links you'll get a download prompt.  Not to fret, we will be back right as rain and running better than ever later today.

In the meantime, here's a little something to play with while you wait if you haven't had a chance to download from my previous post.  Feel free to download this collage sheet, save to your hard drive and create to your heart's content.  It's a pdf and rather large so it'll take a bit to open. Please use THIS LINK to get to your freebie and not the download link in my previous post (at least for the time being since that takes you to my website and my website is a mite busy being transformed into ROBO-WHIMSY)..

If you need to reach me while the website is down please click HERE for an alternate email address.  Further updates on the website migration can be found in this blog.  I've also sent out a quick newsletter to those of you who have subscribed.  If you haven't subscribed to the PaperWhimsy Musings newsletter, please drop me an email and I'll sign you up.

Thank you for your patience and see you soon!

PaperWhimsy Gothique Faerie Paper Dollies!

Gothsheet06sample Oooo... la... la... Petite Gothique Faeries collage sheets from PaperWhimsy inspired by an original dress designed by Sarah Drayton.

This inaugural funky high-fashion collection is comprised of six new sheets (with several more sheets on the way). All the necessary pretty bits to create amazing and endless ensembles for your magical, funky Gothic faeries.  So many pieces from which to choose, so many fashions to create and all the bits on all the sheets fit all the faeries.

Scores of pretty bits to mix and match across the line, so you'll never be without the perfect outfit for a special occasion no matter what it may be.

Add Dresden, baubles, beads, lace... add paper flowers, ribbons, fibers, felting... add touches of paint and glitter...  Each little faerie will be uniquely yours when you're done.  Well, I don't know that you'll ever be done - so many pretties to play with makes for a very happy time and nobody wants a happy time to end.

Have your sheets printed on fabric, stitch the parts to a doll body and decorate with charms and sequins and beads.

And look for exciting additions to some of our favorite PaperWhimsy collage sheets.  You're going to find faerie heads popping up all over the place, perfectly sized for the little Gothique wardrobe.

Oh joy, oh joy!  I have been just bursting with excitement and inspired moments because of these little fee creatures and I hope you catch this fever and find something here to inspire you, as well.

Little Dresses from JoAnnA Pierotti

Joy, oh, joy!  They're here!  The special dresses created by JoAnnA Pierotti of Moss Hill Studio for a few of her favorite PaperWhimsy kids.  I am  utterly charmed by JoAnnA's artwork and to have her create outfits especially for PaperWhimsy is a very special gift, indeed.

There are three outfits for the kids, Jackie Van Gogh (sheet 022), Hannah Honeypot (sheet 008) and Little Petal Whimsy (sheet 155).  Adorable all three.

I would love to see your art using these dresses on these little kids.  Post your entries using one of the three new dresses created by JoAnnA especially for PaperWhimsy along with a link back to your blog so we can see your wonderful creation.

Show your Whimsies in their new dresses.

And you don't need to put the dresses on the particular Whimsy kid they were created for - you can use your altering skills, if you so choose, to put the dresses on any of the little kiddles.

All you have to do to play along is use an original PaperWhimsy collage image, one of the special dresses created by JoAnnA for PaperWhimsy, and post an entry to my blog with a link back to your blog post with your artwork. There will be a random drawing for a winner and the prize is a $50 gift certificate to the PaperWhimsy shoppe.

The deadline is October 21, with the winner being announced and their winning entry featured in my Bits & Bobs Newsletter that goes out on October 31st.

Words, Wonderful Words

Did you know there's a PaperWhimsy Art Forum?  A place where artists using PaperWhimsy collage sheets can congregate, chat, do art, participate in projects...?  Indeed there is and we'd love to have you request membership.

But, if you're not into the group thang, and you're using PaperWhimsy collage sheets, then don't be shy about showing off your work.  If you're blogging about it then please do link your PaperWhimsy posts to this blog.  And if you're interested in playing along in the challenges and projects but don't want to join the group then, by golly, post a link here to your PaperWhimsy art created for each of our challenges.  I'm going to start posting them, right here.

Currently, we have a bi-weekly Quotes Challenge hosted by the inimitable Bev Froese, and I will be posting Bev's quotes, here, every other Sunday.  Please drop by if you're interested in creating art inspired by the Wonderful Words Bev has been sharing with the Forum members.  You can see what the PaperWhimsy Art Forum members have been creating by wandering over to the Quotes Challenge Gallery (you'll also see the quotes from previous weeks and if any inspire - jump in and create using PaperWhimsy collage sheet images).

Hope is the thing with feathers
that perches on the soul
and sings the tune without the words
and never stops at all

Bev has an amazing knack for finding the best quotes that evoke a strong artistic vision.  So let's see your visions!

PaperWhimsy Name Game Winners...

...for the first 20 sheets and now accepting submissions for sheets 21-40!

Okee dokee... after much thought and consideration I have chosen the names for the first 20 sheets.  Thank you so much for all your input - I hope you enjoyed Round One and plan on participating in Round Two which starts July 1st.

A change in the time table for submissions and some other important points:

1. Submissions will be accepted from the 1st to the 21st of the month - winners will be announced on the last day of the month.

2. Please email your submissions to me with "PaperWhimsy Name Game" in the subject line. If this is not in the subject line, I'm afraid your submissions will get lost in my inbox. So! "PaperWhimsy Name Game" must be in the subject line.

3. Only submit names for the sheets that are actively being named, please. For instance: if sheets 21-40 are the sheets we're naming in the month of July, don't shoot me an email with names for sheets 45, 62, 112 or anything other than sheets 21-40. I'm just not that organized. I'll lose them for sure. And please don't include names for any sheets other than 21-40 in your email for sheets 21-40.

4. First name is mandatory but first and last names are wonderful!!! If you're so inclined. If you wish to include some background on why you've selected a certain name it may play into my decision making. This is not a requirement, though.

5. Don't be shy about submitting your art for the sheets. Unless, of course, you just don't want to be featured in my shopping cart. I am still looking for art - would love to see art. And without getting into any spoilers - I think you're going to like the way my new "something" is going to look and the way art is displayed in the shoppe. Plus, you're credited.  Please send a nice big scan in an email to me if you would like to submit a piece.

OKAY!!  I think that covers it all for now.  Without further ado - let's reveal the new names for sheets 1-20!!

Sheet 001 – Amelia Peabody and sister Pris - Natalie
Sheet 002 - Little Bebs  - syannebleu
Sheet 003 – Jordan Plum – Caryl Hoobler

The PaperWhimsy Name Game

Looking for a spot of fun and maybe some recognition along with a free gift?  Then look no further - you've come to the place.

!How to Play the PaperWhimsy Name Game!
Sheet133

Look at this darling face... look at those eyes.  Does this face not inspire you?  She is known as Sheet #133.  That's her name.  How's that grab you?  Like it?  Think it aptly describes her?

Sheet039

And this little princess?  Does this face tell you a story?  Does it make you want to run to your art table and create?  How about if I were to tell you that her name is Collage Sheet #039?  Does that also make you want to run to your art table and create?

Do you have pet names for your favorite PaperWhimsy faces? What about Collage Sheet 004, or Collage Sheet 024... do you have a favorite name for either of those pretty little lassies? Or Collage Sheets 001, 056, 147...???

I am searching for 20 perfect names for my collage sheets 1-20 during the month of May. I will also be looking for the perfect name for sheets 21-40 in June and 41-60 in July and I'll keep on looking, every month, until each and every sheet has been given a proper name. That's Part I.

Which means there's a Part II...

Part II - I am also looking for art. Fabulous, glorious art.

For May I am looking for art using the images from sheets 1-20. Not all in one piece, mind, but 20 pieces, one for each sheet. In June I will be looking for art using images from sheets 21-40. July it will be sheets 41-60, and so on and so on until every sheet has a companion piece of art. And that should take us right to the end of 2008.

Preparing your submissions

In submitting artwork for consideration, the presentation is very important. In other words if you can get a straight on scan/photo it will make for a better representation of your work. And sharp detail (making sure the shot is in focus) is a must.

Scans/photos that are straight on, i.e. the art is not photographed at an angle unless it's a 3-D piece and appears best at an angle to present its depth, are best. The quality of your scan/photo will be part of the jury and selection process.

You can submit names or art as many times as you wish. You can submit a name and art or just a name or just art. Just be sure to clarify the sheet number/s your naming or illustrating.

* If you submit a name - please tell me why you've chosen that name.
* If you submit art - please tell me why that particular image speaks to you.

At the end of May - I will select my favorite names and my favorite art - for Collage sheets 1-20. If your art or your name have been selected you will receive that sheet free, and the name or art you've submitted will be featured in my website in the shoppe. And of course, you will be credited... in flashing neon lights - or maybe in bold with a bit of color.

And so it will continue - this PaperWhimsyNaming Game - eight full months of fun and games as you help me finally put the WHIMSY into the collage sheet line.

How to enter your submissions:

If you're naming a collage sheet you can post your name right here.  Please include your name and a link to your blog.

If you're submitting artwork please post it to your blog, tag it PaperWhimsy Name Game Collage Sheet #____ and then post a link to your blog here.

There are 156+ little faces and pretty bits counting on YOU to rescue them from the anonymity of numberhood, and with all the "Name Your Baby" websites floating around the internet along with such evocative and lovely faces staring at you from my shoppe, I'm looking forward to seeing hundreds of charming and whimsical names popping up in my inbox real soon!

Thinking Spring

When it's so cold outside?  What better time.  And I sure do need a dose of spring as I sit here in my cabin with a fever.

Check out Rande Hanson's remedy for the cabin fever.  Using sparkly bits, German Dresden ornaments, vintage glass glitter, some PaperWhimsy images, papier-mache doodads and a healthy dose of imagination.  Click here for the list of stuff Rande used and to peek at some other goodies she's been cooking up.
