Next month, Draw and I head to England. And of course, with every trip planned, it means I have to have more camera equipment. That's just the way it is.
Spent big bucks on a Bogen tripod last year only to discover that all those bells and whistles actually add heft to the thing and thus it was too heavy for my skinny noodle arms to carry. And since Draw is already carrying my nifty big ol' sling backpack (another tidy sum) because *it's* too bulky for my skinny noodle shoulders, the tripod gets left at home.
It's not like I'm 5'2" and weigh less than a hundred pounds, BTW. It's that I'm whiny and a sissy girl.
Now I have it in my mind that maybe a monopod is going to work better for me. Maybe one that doubles as a walking stick. Help me keep my balance as we walk up and down the hills and dales and whatnot, camera attached at the top just in case I trip over a photo op. And while I'm at it why not a better, more aerodynamic backpack for the camera stuff. Draw always loves when I get in a shopping mood to upgrade and/or downsize my camera stuff cuz he gets the old stuff which isn't, I have to admit, very old. And besides, it's practically like that sling back pack is his because he's been carrying it for me ever since I bought it. The purpose of that purchase at that time being that I didn't want to hand carry my *other* camera case (which he's been using since I bought the sling thing).
So, I am now the proud owner of a Bogen monopod with a smaller quick release head (the one I bought for my other Bogen being too heavy for a whiny sissy girl to carry for a prolonged period of time). And a nifty and very aerodynamic backpack which will hold both my precious "L" lenses and my XT.
Next purchase is flash cards. I have 5 gig but that's weenie anymore and that's 5 gig spread out over 6 cards. I need a big honkin' flash card for more photos... and cuz stupid me, I bought Draw a four gig card for Christmas and he now has more gig than I do. I'll use the excuse, tho, that I need to better organize my photos because last year's photos were such muddle. As I ran out of room I had to delete photos from the cards in order to take more. I'd used up four gig and we were only half way through the trip.
And so it begins. The long and somewhat painful process of preparing myself for this year's trip. I'll keep you posted as I go along. I still have the clothes and shoes to buy. That flash card. Maybe a hat.
Next post though, I'll talk about finding accommodations for our side trip. Those have now been secured but it took me a month to finally settle on my first choice. Preceded by where the heck are we going on our side, anyway
Ta ta!
